CATECHESIS MEETING
As part of the preparation for the Diocesan Synod, Bishop John has asked all the parishes to have a meeting to discuss the role of the laity and give feedback to the diocese to aid the deliberations at the synod.  St James’ and St Columba’s  are holding this meeting at 7 pm TOMORROW Monday 5th October in St Columba’s Parish Hall.  This is very important preparation for our Synod and Bishop John has asked that as many people as possible, from both Parishes, make a special effort to attend.

COMING SOON – LOURDES 2016
During this period of preparation for the Synod we are asked to reflect on our role as the lay faithful. Bishop John’s message was to encourage us to be more involved and to recognise that we have a big role to play in the life of the Church.  As we prepare for Lourdes 2016 we are asking you to reflect on, and discuss ways in which, we can try to put that into practice throughout the Year of Mercy and the presence of the Icon of Our Lady of Paisley in our Parishes.
Going to Lourdes is for the sick, the pilgrims, the helpers, and the people wanting to experience Mary in a different place. Whatever the reason you intend to go on pilgrimage, if you think you have a role to play in preparing for the pilgrimage please come to our next meeting on Wednesday, 14th October 2015, at 7:30pm. In Holy Family Hall, Port Glasgow. For more details please contact Anne Louise 01475 638132 or Karen 07923564434

ACN PRAYER
Please join ACN in prayer for Aylan Kurdi – the young refugee child retrieved from the seashore.
Heavenly Father,  Look with kindness and mercy on all who fly from war and violence like the young child Aylan Kurdi. Grant your protection to many people who like his family saw no other option but to take a perilous journey over land and sea in order to find a place of safety and the hope a better life. Look with pity on the many people who like them are uprooted at this time from their land and their homes and who are uncertain of their future. May the plight of many displaced people, through your grace, stir up hearts in every nation to acts of kindness and generosity so that strangers find friends,  those held captive are set free and those who are weak gain new strength.  Take also into your care the tiny child washed up on the shore who didn’t reach a place of safety away from the destruction of war and terror. Take also into your care the many men, women and children who have lost their lives in this perilous exodus  from their lands. Bless them with peace that only you can give.

The concert will be followed with a collection and all proceeds will go to the charity Let the Children Live. This Charity, run by Father Peter Walters, works in Colombia with children from the streets and shanty-towns of the city of Medellín. At present the Charity is  working with 550 boys and girls in this city. Their ages range from six-year-olds to teenagers and they are often unloved and unwanted; even  beaten, robbed, raped and sometimes murdered. The charity aims to safeguard the lives of these children from the poverty and violence of the streets and  shanty-towns and to make their lives worth living by giving them love, education and a future.
